As a young teen, JacQueline was diagnosed with chronic debilitating migraines that prevented her from living a normal life. She still has no idea what that is. She completed high school in her own way, homeschooling herself through the last three years. (Full disclosure: a beloved tutor got her through algebra and geometry.) She then went on to get her B.A. in Christian Theatre and Theatre Arts from Hannibal-LaGrange College, now Hannibal-LaGrange University. Her last two years there were complicated by migraines once again, but she persevered and found her way through again.
If you’re sensing a theme in JacQueline’s life, it is one of perseverance and grace. Every hardship she has faced has convinced her to fight through the pain, depression, and anxiety and look to God for her strength. He has consistently seen her through, providing the resources and friendships that have saved her. Having served as a pastor’s wife for over fourteen years, ten of them full-time in a small ranching town in North Texas, JacQueline has used her experiences in and out of vocational ministry to reach others for Christ by sharing her story of hope.
Memoirs of a Headcase: Held by the God of Hope
Can depression, anxiety, and the Christian life co-exist?
This short memoir will carry you through a year in the life of pastor’s wife, JacQueline V. Roe, as she confronts mental health struggles that lead her to question whether her life is worth living.
In the spiritual battle against depression, anxiety, and suicide, JacQueline takes us on an intimate journey through thoughts and fears. Many will be able to relate to her feelings of inadequacy, her search for significance as she at last realizes her own limitations. More Bible Studies and Devotionals Coming … Soon-ish?
While JacQueline’s first book published, Memoirs of a Headcase: Held by the God of Hope, was a labor of love to encourage those specifically fighting chronic pain and mental illness. Shortly after it was published, tragedy struck her family. Joy, JacQueline’s brain-injured sister for whom she was the caregiver, was run over by an intoxicated driver. JacQueline fell into a deep depression as she grieved, and was unable to write nonfiction at a steady pace.
She published Rapunzel’s Journey (books 1-3) with Bible studies and devotionals in the backs of the books to aid parents, family members, and others along their Christian walk. She now uses each of her author’s notes to share her faith journey with fiction readers, whether in the fantasy/fairytale genre, or sweet romantic comedy.
Now, years later, she has tentatively begun working again on another labor of love, The JOY Book in hopes of encouraging people who struggle with deep grief and are looking for how joy can coincide with it. There are no firm publication dates at this time.
